VIBHUTI YOGA

Chapter 10 of the Bhagavad Gita, known as "Vibhuti Yoga," delves into the divine manifestations and the magnificence of the Supreme Being, Lord Krishna. In this chapter, Lord Krishna reveals his majestic forms and extraordinary attributes to Arjuna, providing a glimpse of his omnipotent and omnipresent nature.

The chapter begins with Arjuna expressing his desire to know more about the divine manifestations and the glorious forms of Lord Krishna. In response, Lord Krishna unfolds his divine splendour, declaring himself as the source of all creation and the essence of everything in the universe. Lord Krishna describes various manifestations of his divine presence in the world, including the radiant sun, the illuminating moon, the powerful wind, the mighty ocean, and many others. He emphasizes that all these manifestations are just glimpses of his infinite glory and power. Through the dialogue between Lord Krishna and Arjuna, Chapter 10 emphasizes the omnipresence and omnipotence of the Supreme Being. It teaches us to recognize the divine presence in every aspect of creation and to develop a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all beings.

Listen again, O mighty-armed Arjun, to My supreme word, which I shall speak to you for your own good, because you are very dear to Me.

He who knows Me as the unborn, as the beginningless, as the Supreme Lord of all worlds—he, undeluded among mortals, is freed from all sins.

Understanding, knowledge, non-delusion, forgiveness, truth, control over the mind and senses, pleasure, pain, birth, death, fear, and also fearlessness.

Nonviolence, equanimity, satisfaction, austerity, charity, fame, and infamy—all these various qualities of living beings arise from Me alone.

Seven sages and four ancient Manus, all were born out of My mind, and from them came forth the entire human race in this world.

He who understands the true nature of My manifestations and divine glories, becomes firmly united with unwavering devotion; there is no doubt about it.

I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who know this perfectly engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.

With their minds fixed on Me, their lives devoted to Me, enlightening one another and talking about Me constantly, they derive satisfaction and joy.

To those who are constantly devoted and worship Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.

For their welfare, I, residing within their hearts, dispel the darkness born of ignorance with the shining lamp of knowledge.

You are the Supreme Brahman, the ultimate abode, the purest, the Absolute Truth. You are the eternal, divine, original person, the unborn, the greatest.

All the great sages—Asita, Devala, Vyasa, and Narada—declare this about You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me.

"I know everything you tell me, O Keshava. No beings, divine or demoniac, understand You completely, O Lord."

You yourself are the knower of the soul, O Supreme Person, the origin of all beings, the lord of all beings, the God of gods, the ruler of the universe.

O Lord, You deserve to be known by Your unlimited divine manifestations. You pervade and sustain the entire cosmos with these divine manifestations.

"How should I know You constantly meditating, Yogin? In which and what manner, O Bhagavan, may You be meditated by me?"

"Please explain in detail, O Janardana, both Your personality and multifarious manifestations. I am never satiated in hearing about You, for the more I hear, the more I want to taste the nectar of Your words."

I shall now tell you of My divine manifestations, O best of the Kurus, because my manifestations are endless.

I am the soul, O Arjuna, seated in the heart of all creatures. I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of all beings.

Amongst the Ādityas, I am Vishnu; amongst the luminaries, I am the radiant sun. Amongst the Maruts, I am Marīci; and amongst the stars, I am the moon.

Of the Vedas, I am the Sama Veda; of the celestial gods, I am Indra, the king; of the senses, I am the mind, and in living beings, I am the consciousness.

Among the Rudras I am Shankara; among the Yakshas and Rakshasas, I am the Lord of wealth Kubera. Among the Vasus I am Agni, and among mountains I am Meru.

O Partha, know Me to be the chief among priests, Brihaspati. Among the generals, I am Skanda; among bodies of water, I am the ocean.

Among the great sages, I am Bhṛgu; of vibrations, I am the transcendental syllable Om. Of sacrifices, I am the chanting of the holy names, and of immovable things, I am the Himalayas.

Amongst trees, I am the banyan tree; among the celestial sages, I am Narada. Amongst the Gandharvas, I am Chitraratha, and amongst the perfected beings, I am the sage Kapila.

Know Me to be the source of the celestial horse Ucchaishravas, and the lordly elephant Airavata among elephants, I am the king of men.

Among weapons, I am the thunderbolt; among cows, I am the wish-fulfilling cow. I am the progenitor, the god of love, and among serpents, I am Vasuki.

Among snakes, I am Ananta; among water deities, I am Varuna. Among ancestors, I am Aryama, and among controllers, I am Yama.

Among the hymns of the Sama Veda, I am the Brihat-sama; among poetic meters, I am Gayatri. I am the month of Margashirsha among the twelve months, and I am springtime among the seasons.

"I am the gambling of the cheats, and I am the brilliance of the brilliant. I am victory, I am effort, and I am the strength of the strong."

Even the seed of all beings, Arjuna, I am. There exists no being, moving or non-moving, that can exist without Me.

There is no end to my divine manifestations, O Arjuna. What I have spoken to you is but a mere indication of my infinite glory.

Whatever glorious, powerful, or extraordinary you see in this world, know it to be a manifestation of a fraction of My divine splendor.

Alternatively, Arjuna, what need is there for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself, I pervade and support this entire universe.
