Constant contemplation on spiritual knowledge, perception of the purpose of knowledge about the Truth, this is declared as knowledge, and all else is ignorance.

Lesson:

Here, Lord Krishna imparts profound wisdom about the nature of true knowledge (jñāna) and ignorance (ajñāna). He emphasizes that perpetual reflection on spiritual wisdom (adhyātma jñāna), along with the insight into the essence of true knowledge (tatvajñāna), constitutes genuine wisdom. Anything contrary to this understanding is considered ignorance.

Krishna's teachings emphasize the importance of spiritual knowledge (adhyātma jñāna) as a means to attain self-realization and liberation. Adhyātma jñāna refers to the knowledge of the self, the understanding of one's true nature beyond the physical body and material world. By constantly contemplating on spiritual truths, one deepens their awareness and connection with the divine.

Furthermore, Krishna highlights the significance of discerning the purpose of knowledge (tatvajñāna) in the pursuit of wisdom. Tatvajñāna involves recognizing the ultimate purpose and meaning behind acquiring knowledge. It involves understanding the fundamental truths of existence and the underlying principles governing the universe.

According to Krishna, genuine knowledge (jñāna) is characterized by the combination of adhyātma jñāna and tatvajñāna. It encompasses not only the intellectual understanding of spiritual truths but also the practical application of this knowledge in one's life. True wisdom leads to self-realization and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

On the other hand, ignorance (ajñāna) is defined as anything that deviates from this understanding. It refers to the lack of awareness or misconception about the true nature of reality. Ignorance arises when one is disconnected from spiritual wisdom and fails to recognize the purpose and significance of knowledge.

Krishna's teachings in this verse serve as a guiding light for seekers on the path of self-realization. He encourages them to cultivate a deep and contemplative understanding of spiritual truths, leading to enlightenment and liberation. By discerning the essence of true knowledge and constantly reflecting on spiritual wisdom, one can transcend ignorance and attain ultimate satisfaction in life.
