CHAPTER

VERSE

62

ध्यायतो विषयान्पुंस: सङ्गस्तेषूपजायते |
सङ्गात्सञ्जायते काम: कामात्क्रोधोऽभिजायते || 2.62 ||

Dhyāyato viṣayān puṁsaḥ saṅgas teṣūpajāyate
saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmāt krodho 'bhijāyate ||

When a person dwells on objects, an attachment to them arises. From attachment arises desire, and from desire, anger is born.

Lesson:

This verse teaches us about the cycle of desire and anger that arises from attachment to material objects. It begins with the mind dwelling on external things, like possessions or pleasures. As the mind becomes attached to these objects, desire grows within us. When our desires are not fulfilled, it leads to frustration and anger.

Imagine you really want a new toy. You keep thinking about it all the time, and you start feeling like you can't be happy without it. This attachment to the toy leads to a strong desire to have it. Then, if you can't get the toy, you might get angry and upset.

In life, this cycle of desire and anger can cause a lot of suffering. Lord Krishna warns us to be mindful of our desires and attachments because they can cloud our judgment and lead us away from inner peace. Instead, he encourages us to practice detachment and focus on spiritual growth, which brings lasting happiness and fulfillment.
