It is better to die in one’s own duty; the duty of another is fraught with fear.

Lesson:

This verse from the Bhagavad Gita emphasizes the importance of performing one's own duty or dharma, rather than doing the duty of others. Here, "duty" refers to one's inherent responsibilities and obligations in life.

The verse suggests that it is preferable to fulfill one's own duties, even if they are challenging or difficult, rather than attempting to perform the duties assigned to others. This is because each person is uniquely suited to their own duties based on their skills, abilities, and circumstances. By fulfilling one's own duties, one can achieve a sense of fulfillment and inner satisfaction.

On the other hand, trying to perform the duties of others, or "paradharma," is described as "fraught with fear." This is because stepping into roles or responsibilities that are not aligned with one's natural inclinations can lead to anxiety, insecurity, and ultimately, failure.

Overall, the verse teaches the importance of self-awareness and staying true to one's inherent nature and responsibilities. By embracing one's own duty and performing it diligently, one can lead a meaningful and fulfilling life, free from the fear and uncertainty that come with trying to live up to others' expectations.
