चातुर्वर्ण्यं मया सृष्टं गुणकर्मविभागश: |
तस्य कर्तारमपि मां विद्ध्यकर्तारमव्ययम् || 4.13 ||

Chāturvarṇyaṁ mayā sṛiṣhṭaṁ guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśhaḥ।
Tasya kartāram api māṁ viddhyakartāram avyayam॥

The four varnas were created by Me based on people's qualities and actions. Although I am the creator of this system, know me to be the non-doer and eternal.

Lesson:

Explaining the concept of the four varnas, or social classes, which were established based on individuals' inherent qualities and actions, Lord Krishna asserts that he himself is the creator of this system, indicating its divine origin.

Despite being the architect of the varnas, Krishna emphasizes his role as the non-doer and eternal being. This implies that although he initiated the societal hierarchy, he remains unaffected by the actions and roles within it. Krishna's transcendental nature highlights his supremacy beyond the mundane affairs of the material world. He is the eternal essence, transcending the dualities of action and inaction, creation and dissolution. By explaining the creation of varnas and his transcendental position, Krishna aims to guide individuals towards understanding the eternal aspect of the self and recognizing their connection to the divine.

This verse underscores the importance of recognizing the divine order within society while also acknowledging the spiritual reality beyond material designations. Through this teaching, Krishna invites seekers to transcend the limitations of societal roles and embrace their true nature as eternal beings beyond the material realm.
