भक्तोऽसि मे सखा चेति रहस्यं ह्येतदुत्तमम् || 4.3 ||

Sa evāyaṁ mayā te'dya yogaḥ proktaḥ purātanaḥ
Bhakto'si me sakhā cheti rahasyaṁ hyetaduttamam ||

Today I've revealed this ancient yoga to you, Because you are my devotee and friend, it's true;
This secret is indeed supreme and sublime, Know it well, O dear friend of mine ||

Lesson:

Shri Krishna emphasizes that he's sharing this profound knowledge with Arjuna because of their special relationship and Arjuna's devotion to him. Krishna refers to Arjuna as his devotee and friend, underscoring the close bond between them.

The message conveyed by Lord Krishna here is twofold. Firstly, Krishna wants Arjuna to understand that the wisdom he's about to share is not something new but has been passed down through the ages, from ancient times. This indicates the timeless nature of spiritual teachings and suggests that the knowledge Krishna is imparting is eternal and relevant for all.

Secondly, Krishna highlights the importance of trust and friendship in the guru-disciple relationship. By addressing Arjuna as his friend, Krishna demonstrates his love and affection for him and expresses his confidence in Arjuna's ability to grasp and utilize the teachings effectively. This underscores the notion that spiritual guidance is not just about imparting knowledge but also about nurturing a deep bond of trust and friendship between the teacher and the student.

Overall, this verse serves to deepen the connection between Krishna and Arjuna and sets the stage for the profound spiritual teachings that follow in the Bhagavad Gita. It underscores the timeless nature of spiritual wisdom and the importance of trust, devotion, and friendship in the pursuit of spiritual growth and enlightenment.
