Nāyaṁ loko'styayajñasya kuto'nyaḥ kurusattama ||

Those who partake of the remnants of the sacrifice attain the eternal Brahman; this world is not for one who does not perform sacrifices, so how can they have other worlds, O best among the Kurus?

Lesson:

As a human, it is important to understand the significance of performing sacrifices as prescribed in the scriptures. He states that those who partake in the remnants of the sacrifices offered in the prescribed manner attain the eternal Brahman, the ultimate reality or the highest spiritual destination. Here, "yajña" refers to the Vedic ritualistic sacrifices performed with the spirit of selflessness and devotion to the divine. The term "amṛta-bhujaḥ" refers to those who partake of the remnants of such sacrifices, symbolizing their adherence to righteous conduct and spiritual practices.

Lord Krishna contrasts this with the fate of those who neglect or refuse to perform sacrifices. He states that such individuals are not entitled to the benefits of this world, let alone the higher spiritual realms. By highlighting the significance of sacrifice, Krishna underscores the principle of selflessness and the importance of following one's duty or dharma.

From a broader perspective, the verse conveys the idea that selfless actions performed in accordance with divine principles lead to spiritual elevation and ultimate liberation. Sacrifice, in the Vedic context, is not merely a ritualistic act but a symbolic representation of offering one's ego and desires to the divine. By engaging in selfless acts of service and devotion, individuals purify their hearts and minds, gradually attaining spiritual enlightenment and union with the divine. Overall, this verse serves as a reminder of the spiritual significance of sacrifice and the transformative power of selfless actions in leading one towards the eternal truth and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
