Keeping the mind focused at one point, with thoughts and senses under control, one should practice yoga for self-purification. Sitting in a comfortable posture, the body, head, and neck aligned, motionless and steady, gazing at the tip of the nose without looking around.

Lesson:

In these verses, Krishna provides practical guidance on the practice of yoga, emphasizing the importance of concentration and posture.

In the first verse (6.12), Krishna advises the seeker to concentrate the mind at a single point. This single-pointed concentration is essential for the practice of yoga, as it helps in calming the mind and controlling the senses. By directing the mind towards a specific focal point, such as the breath or a mantra, the practitioner can gradually achieve a state of inner stillness and clarity. This focused attention on the present moment is crucial for self-purification and spiritual growth.

Krishna also emphasizes the importance of posture in yoga practice. In the second verse (6.13), he describes the ideal posture for meditation. The practitioner should sit comfortably with the spine erect, the head and neck aligned, and the body motionless and steady. This stable posture helps in channelling the flow of energy within the body and facilitates deep concentration.

Furthermore, Krishna instructs the practitioner to gaze at the tip of the nose without looking around. This practice of fixing the gaze at a specific point helps in steadying the mind and preventing distractions. By focusing the eyes on a single spot, the practitioner can withdraw the senses from external stimuli and turn their attention inward.

Overall, these verses highlight the importance of inner focus, posture, and breath control in the practice of yoga. By cultivating concentration and adopting the correct posture, the practitioner can progress on the path of self-realization and spiritual evolution.
