Sukhamātyantikaṁ yattad-buddhi-grāhyam-ātīndriyam

That which is perceived by the intellect as beyond the senses, and which is supremely blissful, one realizes that state, and having obtained it, one does not deviate from the truth.

Lesson:

What is the state of supreme happiness? Krishna explains that there exists a profound happiness (sukhamātyantikam) that transcends the pleasures derived from sensory experiences. This happiness is not dependent on external stimuli but is instead perceived by the intellect (buddhi-grāhyam) as beyond the grasp of the senses (ātīndriyam). It is a bliss that arises from within, independent of external circumstances or sensory pleasures.

Those who attain this state of supreme happiness realize the truth of their existence. They recognize that true happiness lies beyond the fleeting pleasures of the material world and resides in the realm of spiritual realization. This state of inner satisfaction and contentment is beyond the fluctuations of the mind and senses.

Furthermore, Krishna emphasizes that once a person attains this state of realization, they remain steadfast and unwavering (sthita) in their connection to the truth (tattvataḥ). Unlike the restless mind, which is constantly swayed by external influences and desires, the one established in this state of inner realization remains anchored in the truth of their being.

This verse serves as a profound reminder of the importance of transcending the limitations of the senses and cultivating a deeper understanding of the self. It highlights the journey from external gratification to inner peace and the realization that true happiness comes from aligning oneself with the eternal truth. By recognizing and experiencing this supreme happiness, one attains a state of inner stability and contentment that cannot be shaken by the ups and downs of life.
