Clifford Geertz was an American anthropologist known for his work in symbolic and interpretive anthropology. His book "The Interpretation of Cultures" introduced the concept of "thick description" in ethnographic research. Geertz's contributions to the understanding of culture and human societies have made him one of the most influential anthropologists of the 20th century.
