Indra Devi, born Eugenie Peterson, was a Latvian-born yoga teacher who became one of the first Western women to study and teach yoga in India. She played a crucial role in popularizing yoga in the West, particularly in the United States, where she became known as the "First Lady of Yoga". Her teachings emphasized the spiritual and health benefits of yoga, helping to introduce and integrate the practice into mainstream Western culture.
