James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States, presided over a period of national unity and territorial expansion known as the "Era of Good Feelings." His administration's policies, including the Monroe Doctrine, laid the groundwork for American dominance in the Western Hemisphere and secured his legacy as a champion of American nationalism.
