Joan of Arc, also known as the Maid of Orlans, was a French peasant girl who became a national heroine and a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. During the Hundred Years' War, she claimed to have received visions from God instructing her to support Charles VII and help drive the English from France. Joan led several successful military campaigns before being captured, tried for heresy, and burned at the stake at the age of 19. Her legacy as a symbol of courage and faith endures.

"King of England, and you, duke of Bedford, who call yourself regent of the kingdom of France... settle your debt to the king of Heaven; return to the Maiden, who is envoy of the king of Heaven, the keys to all the good towns you took and violated in France."
