Louis XVIII was the King of France from 1814 to 1824, with a brief interruption during the Hundred Days in 1815 when Napoleon returned to power. He was the first Bourbon king after the French Revolution and the fall of Napoleon, and his reign marked the beginning of the Bourbon Restoration. Louis XVIII faced the difficult task of reconciling the changes brought by the Revolution with the old monarchical traditions. Despite his challenges, he managed to stabilize France and lay the groundwork for a constitutional monarchy.
