Nichelle Nichols was an American actress, singer, and civil rights activist, best known for her role as Lieutenant Uhura on "Star Trek." Her portrayal of Uhura was groundbreaking, as she was one of the first African American women to have a prominent role on television. Nichols' work in "Star Trek" and her advocacy for diversity in the arts have left a lasting legacy.
