Robert Towne is an American screenwriter, director, and actor born on November 23, 1934. He is best known for writing the screenplay for the classic film Chinatown, which earned him an Academy Award. Towne's writing is characterized by its complexity, attention to detail, and exploration of moral ambiguity. He has also directed several films, including Personal Best and Tequila Sunrise.
