Sofia Kovalevskaya was a Russian mathematician born on January 15, 1850. She is known for her groundbreaking work in analysis, differential equations, and mechanics. Kovalevskaya was the first woman to earn a doctorate in mathematics in modern Europe and made significant contributions to the field. She was also an advocate for women's education and rights in science. Her legacy continues to inspire future generations of female mathematicians and scientists.
