Ulrich Walter, a German astronaut, was the first German to participate in a space mission aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1993. During his eight days in space, Walter conducted experiments in materials science and fluid dynamics, contributing to our understanding of the effects of microgravity on physical processes. His pioneering journey inspired a new generation of German astronauts and helped strengthen international cooperation in space exploration.
